Shanta Karam …

I am sure who ever has watched Dasavatharam (Kamal Hassan’s tri-lingual blockbluster) keenly will remember the Protoganist mouthing the shlokam "Shanta Karam" when he is being attacked by his enemies. Why did he have to recite this Shlokam at that time? Why not some other Shlokam? What is the actual meaning of the shlokam? Not many people know it.

These are my two cents for understanding the meaning of the Shlokam.
Shlokam:
Shanta Karam Bhujaga Shayanam,
Padmanabham Suresham.
Vishvadharam Gagana Sadrusham,
Megha Varnam Shubhangam.
Lakshmi Kantam Kamala Nayanam,
Yogibhir Dhyana Gamyam.
Vande Vishnum Bhava Bhaya Haram,
Sarva Lokaia Kanatham.

Meaning:
I adore Lord Vishnu, who is the embodiment of peace, who lies on the Shesha serpent,
whose navel is the source of the Lotus of the Universe,
whose complexion is swarthy like the clouds, whose body shines with heavenly beauty,
who is the beloved of Goddess Lakshmi, whose eyes are like Lotus,
who is meditated upon by the yogis,
who is the remover of the fear of the world-process,
the cycle of birth and death.

how does thsi relate to the scene? Still i dont undstand why Kamal said this shloka… If he had said Sudarsanastakam or Narashima stotram that makes sence.

Just because he knew this did he recite it or for the words  "remover of the fear"??

He will not tell this when he is being attacked….instead he will recite this when people try to open the door and take the vishnu away… Basically to tell you that he prays vishnu while protecting others to enter into that room….
